Cell(Phone) - The New Unit of Life

What is the unit of life?

Yes, the answer used to be “cell” but now humans have added the word “phone” which makes the answer “cell phone.”

It all started in 1876 when Alexander Graham Bell invented the world’s first telephone, little did he know that he had made distant communication easier and communicating face to face difficult. Before cell phones, people wished each other on occasions with a genuine smile. Now also they wish, but the only difference is that the “genuine smile” has been transferred to an emoji on Whatsapp!! People have sure made Insta friends but have forgotten the real ones. Before cell phones, a person had well wishers. These people made him/her happy by complimenting and saying delightful things, now also this happens but the word well wishers has been changed with the word “followers” and the way of complimenting is by tapping a heart button on Insta.
People of those times were much braver than us.  If someone didn’t like a person, he/she went right to that person and said everything. They both were called each others enemies. This has also not changed, but the way of saying those things is done by typing text known as “hate comments” and the word “enemy” has been replaced with the words “trolls and haters.” Earlier, people stored good memories in their mind but now we need pen drives and galleries to store them. We were called mannerless if we didn’t go to someone’s house on festivals……….Nowadays, we are called mannerless if we don’t send a colourful GIF with “Happy Festive Season” written on it.

Isn’t it funny how phones have connected us to the world but have disconnected us from our own family? People competed about the number of friends they had, nowadays we compete on how many followers we have. Earlier, when people used to see a child with spectacles the first thought which would come to their mind would be “Oh God, the child must be studying alot” Nowadays, the first thought which comes is “Oh God, the child must be using phone for a long time!” See the differences?

There was a restaurant in Australia which offered discounts on food if the customers did not use phone in the restaurant……………Eventually, that restaurant had to shut down because NO ONE came to dine there!!!!

Sometimes I really think  “Are we using phones or are phones using us?”

In either case, we should learn to manage our relations and the usage of phones. I have tried to convey this message by writing this blog. Hope you liked it. Thanks for reading ;)
